I think I’m about to have the Monday blues. I don’t usually. I’ve never really dreaded going in to work on Mondays or looked forward to Fridays because it was the end of the week … (ooh just thought of another song… The Easybeats’ Friday On My Mind). I’m a real workaholic and if I didn’t absolutely have to sleep, I think I could just work through days and nights, Saturdays and Sundays, with maybe a few meals in between and some time for television and a couple of walks to feel the sun/look at the stars/listen to the birds/smell the roses.

While I was in college, however, waking up Monday mornings was absolutely the worst  thing ever. Waking up on any day was always an uphill task – for Shereen and I (we shared a room). I think we even smashed the alarm clock once. On a typical morning, we’d hit the snooze button at least three times – that’s an extra 27 minutes of sleep.

It didn’t help that the Bangles had a huge hit that year with Manic Monday (a song written by Prince no less) which for better or worse became a sort of mantra. I think the Bangles were one of the first all-girl bands that I really liked; on top of being girls who actually played musical instruments, looked hot and sang well, it was a huge relief also that Susanna Hoffs was really short (157cm, that’s just a negligible 3cm taller than me).

So in a couple of hours it’s going to be Monday again. And I’m starting to feel a little manic. So little time, so much to do.

* in case you’re wondering, Lew Wallace the guy who wrote the classic 1880 Ben-Hur is also credited as the inventor of the snooze button! Genius!
